A friendly fixture arranged at the last moment saw NHSOB 2nds facing a New Panteg team from Division 6. The Oldboys took the game to their more illustrious opposition scoring 2 good tries during the first half period. Both tries were scored through a very well drilled forward 8 - led admirably by Justin Watson (returning from long term injury). Allan Norris scoring from close range after a number of forward drives. Ian Short scoring a 50metre try, one for the front row to remember. A few of the younger players shone with Pete Tame and Paul Kelleher showing great promise in their first starts of the season. Paul Kelleher going on to receive a well deserved 'man of the match' award. Gareth Cooke scored the final Oldboys try capping off a fine game in the centre. Unfortunately the Oldboys ran out of steam in the final quarter of the game and allowed New Panteg the opportunity to sneak a win, by scoring 3 long range tries and kicking 2 of the conversions to take the win. The game was played in a friendly manner with both teams using all their substitutions - Oldboy Captain Ian Short hopes that this fixture can be played again later in the season so that the Oldboys can exact revenge... |
