A mixture of youth and experience on the day ensured that NHSOB 2nds gave a good account of themselves against some tough opposition. The forwards dominated the early exchanges, taking the game to Hartridge. Simon Walker scoring the first points from a scrum on the 5-metre line. Following scrums resulted in good ball for the Oldboys backs with veteran outside half Paul Hale controlling the game and pulling all the strings. Prop Neil Bradley having an outstanding game at 'inside centre'. Scrum Half Henry Hackford (returning from injury) scored to open the gap between the 2 sides, closely followed with a further try from Prop Justin Watson. Sadly the game was changed due to the introduction of 'uncontested scrums'. This robbed the oldboys of their main weapon and Hartridge responded by throwing the ball around and scoring points from all areas of the pitch. The heavy Oldboys pack struggling to compete. Hartridge scored a number of good try's to leave the Oldboys struggling to comprehend how this one got away. A major plus point for NHSOB was the introduction of a number of players from the youth team who acquitted themselves well and show great promise for the future. |
