NHSOB 2nds stated the game poorly as Malpas raced in with the 1st of their tries within the first few minutes of the game. This began a 'ding-dong' affair with both teams scoring tries throughout an exciting and well-matched 1st half. The Oldboys pack dominating both the scrums and lineout's with Malpas having the upper hand in the backs, ripping the Oldboys apart on a number of occasions. Billy Halls, Paul Kelleher and Justin Watson in the front row, completely overwhelming their young opposite numbers. This allowed No.8 Glenn Stroud to cause havoc with a number of thunderous runs into opposition territory. The half time score was 17 - 20 to Malpas. The Oldboys forward power meant the second half was all about how long Malpas could stay in the game - a number of 5 metre scrums allowed the Oldboys to pressurise the Malpas try line, with 2 Penalty tries being awarded. The Oldboys then opened up with a number of well worked tries, most notably from young scrum half James Harris and outside half Ryan Burns. Mark Bates also got his name on the score sheet, with Glen Stroud and Pat Brunnock rounding off the 2nd half in style. To their credit Malpas never gave up and worked hard right up to the final whistle. |
