Newport HSOB Under 9’s Match Report versus Bridgend Athletic 14/02/10
Newport HSOB Under 9’s this week played Bridgend Athletic, knowing that they would be up against a well drilled, physical side and they weren't disappointed. Bridgend made the journey worthwhile by agreeing to play 2 games, giving both sides squads opportunities. The home side won the first game 4-0, NHSOB making amends to win the 2nd match 9-0.
In NHSOBs first ever game where kicking was allowed, they took time to adapt to the Ravens clever kicking game and conceded two first half tries from chips through. Apart from these 2 tries, the half was well contested with the NHSOB defence constantly pushing back the Bridgend attackers with Aneurin Owen, Josh Farmer and Connor Louth tackling superbly.
The second half was much the same with Bridgend running in two further tries and NHSOB not scoring, despite
many good attacks with Peter Davies in particular driving through the Bridgend defence.
The 2nd game was a totally different story with NHSOB taking command from the start scoring four first half tries
through Peter Davies (2), Aneurin Owen and James Mundy, the latter after good work from Joseph Perry and Rhodri Chapman.
Bridgend kicked off for the second half and NHSOB showed how much they had learned from the first game as Peter Davies caught the ball on the run and burst through 3 tackles to score a fine individual try.
This was followed up by 3 further tries through Anuerin Owen, Connor Louth and NHSOB Man of the Match Nicholas Williams who capped a fine game in the tight by bursting through to score.
Bridgend looked to rally, but NHSOB had the final say when Peter Davies made another fine break and passed to Callum Oliver who fed Aneurin Owen to run in the final score.
