NHSOB U8’s captained by Ellie Robinson came through a very tough test to beat a strong St Joseph side. The first half began with a try for St Josephs. They caught the NHSOB defence cold and scored from the kick off. That led to a quick response from NHSOB with a good flowing move which led to Spencer Smith touching down.
NHSOB went behind again and looked vulnerable so up stepped the captain Ellie who ran from deep in her own half evading St Josephs defence as she offloaded to Tomos Sharwood who pulled the scores level to 2 – 2. Again the Old Boys went behind and with half time fast approaching Spencer Smith picked up the ball and showed great strength and determination running direct at the opposition and he drew the defence and passed the ball out to Harvey Smith who pulled the scores level on the stroke of half time.
The Old Boys started the second half with a greater urgency and took the lead early on with a well taken try by Ellie Robinson. They looked to consolidate the lead with excellent defensive performances by Thomas Brenan & Steffan Owen. The team continued to battle hard and their work paid off when man of the match Oliver Andrew scored his 1st of his 3 tries. St Josephs managed to score 2 more tries but NHSOB put the game out of their reach with Oliver showing great individual skill to score his 3rd leaving the final score 7 -5.
An excellent game where the experience of the older players backed up by their new team mates Gethin Evans, Geraint Evans and Luke Stephens showed the potential for a very successful season.
A special mention goes out to NHSOB player Dylan Pollock who played for St Josephs to make up the numbers and set up 2 of their tries and had a great performance!
