NHSOB u11s RFC v Bridgend Athletic RFC

NHSOB RFC U11s travelled to play at Newbridge Fields Bridgend. Traditionally know as the Bandstand.  This goes back to the days when the club played out of the old bandstand which was on the site. A long tradition of rugby with both Bridgend Athletic and Bridgend RFC play at the site. The latter when they were evicted from the Brewery Field just after World War 11 when the Rugby league team bought the Brewery Field and evicted the Bridgend Rugby Union Team.

The match was hard fought and there was some quality rugby to be seen from both the teams. There were times when some of the bone crunching tackles could be heard well away from the side of the pitch. Both teams attacked and defended in turn. It was not until the half time whistle that Bridgend opened the scoring with a try 5-0.

The second half was a high speed affair with strong runs by the backs. Long runs down the field being stopped close to the try line. It was forward play that added more points to the score board for Bridgend to take the score to 10 -0.

Strong forward play by Jake McDonald Lennon Greggains Jake Price Owen Stone who took the fight to Bridgend Ethan Thomas played well at centre and made a significant contribution to the defensive play with some quality tackles. Georgia Bird was on form making tackles and clearing the ball out wide from behind the breakdowns. Quick ball out wide put Bridgend on the defensive and NHSOB almost managed to score on several occasions. Two tries being disallowed because they were held up. Jack Jones held his position at inside half supporting Ethan Thomas and Kurtis Adams and the three of them were vital to the defence.

Morgan Rees and Adam Hennessy partnered up well in the second row and took several line outs against the head. Tom Rice had a good running and kicking game. He was unfortunate to lose the ball in contact on a few occasions. Taylor Carey in just his second game for the club showed that he had a lot to offer, slotting in on the wing making lots of ground and making some strong tackles NHSOB star player in this game for me was Connor Davies who worked the ball well and was in almost every movement in the game dropping in from the backs to cover forwards work at the breakdown and reading the game well. Putting him where he was needed and covering the whole of the pitch without leaving gaps in the defence

The final score was 2.0 to Bridgend
