Sunday 25th October: NHSOB U10'S entertained Pill Harriers in a closely contested local derby ............
NHSOB and Pill Harriers U10’s served up an absolute thriller last Sunday at Yew Tree Lane in terrible conditions. Despite high winds and driving rain, both sides exhibited extremely high skill levels in a very entertaining game. NHSOB took the game to Pill from the off and they scored the first try through Tom Watson after he ripped the ball out of a maul and crashed over the line. Pill responded immediately with a try of their own but the home side’s aggressive defence maintained their advantage. Excellent harrying by Darren Whelton and Oliver Johnson caused the ball to be dropped behind the Pill try-line and Morgan May fell on the loose ball to deservedly put the home side in front again. Pill however, responded straight from the kick off to level the match again with an excellent run. NHSOB then spent a long period in possession and an excellent break by Darren Whelton allowed him to pass to Oliver Johnson, who cut back inside and then left the defence in his wake as a speedy arcing run put him in for a try in the right hand corner. (H-T 21-14)
Pill got themselves right back into the game by gaining possession immediately from the kick off and breaking out to score in the left hand corner and level the match. Alexi Webb then kept up his impressive run of scoring by crossing in the left hand corner following a strong run. Pill were not to be outdone though, and they scored again following an excellent run by their scrum half. However, for the first and only time in the match, the subsequent conversion was missed, with the ball agonisingly crashing against the cross-bar and leaving NHSOB ahead by 2 points. Alexi Webb then scored again with another strong run to put NHSOB 9 points ahead with Webb maintaining his 100% kicking record by successfully converting. Pill would not lie down though and made a strong finish, scoring again with the last play of the match. With the conversion good, it meant that NHSOB kept up their impressive run of form with a narrow 2 point victory, the missed conversion by Pill proving to be very costly indeed.
