NHSOB UNDER 10S V VALE UNDER 10S AT NHSOB RFC 15 FEB 2009
It was nice to see a bright sunny morning with all the mini rugby teams engaged in home fixtures. This created a festival atmosphere as the different age groups played on adjacent pitches. The NHSOB under tens kicked off to start the game.... In less than a minute NHSOB had gained possession. They moved the ball quickly and was taken forward by Ethan Thomas who slipped inside several tackle attempts to score in the 1st minute. This was converted by Kurtis Adams(Capt). The restart saw Ebbw Vale move the ball forward only to knock on in the NHSOB 22. The ensuing scrum saw the ball moving quickly out from the hands of Frazier with a long pass along the line intoThe hands of Ethan Thomas who went through for his second try in four minutes. Tries started to follow in quick succession a strong team movement saw two phases of play with the ball going wide across the pitch and was taken over the line and then converted by Tom Rice to produce a 19 -0 score line.
EBBW Vale came back with some strong forward play which had NHSOB on the back foot until it was cleared by a kick from the 22 by Kurtis Adams. This possession after the kick went to NHSOB and was taken again by Ethan for his third try of the game which he also converted. Ebbw vale restarted and attacked at pace and managed to secure a scrum following a knock on by Tom Rice. NHSOB gave away a penalty when Frazier accidentally came to far around the scrum and was caught offside. Strong defence from NHSOB prevented a try and the ball was cleared to touch.
The half time score 24.0
The second half was fast and furious, which saw a strong run from the restart by Kurtis Adams who took the ball from the left wing across to the right and with a high speed run down the wing to score. Kurtis attempted to covert the try but bounced under the cross bar. This was followed by a second try by Tom Rice who went on to convert his try. This was followed by some strong forward play from Leonard who as proved to be very useful in the forwards carrying the ball and tackling well.
Ebbw Vale continued to fight on with strong drives but could not breach the NHSOB defence. A further try from Ethan Thomas, his fourth try of the match which converted by Kurtis Adams. Despite the score line Ebbw Vale continued to show that they could be dangerous but strong defence disrupted their play but not their morale as they fought right to the end and produced some excellent rugby.
The NHSOB team showed that they can be difficult to beat with a depth of skill and confidence. Whist there were many points scored it was those players who made the tries possible like Frazer Georgia and Rhys who made those important tackles and provided quick ball for the backs.
It was a delight to see both teams after the match in the club house for post match food and socialising displaying the true spirit of Rugby Final Score 48-0
